Curry rice... is a representative national dish of Japan

"When you eat curry, what is the first utensil that comes to mind?"
This project started with a random question. For many people, when they think of curry, they think of spoons. As one of Japan's leading spoon manufacturers, we have thoroughly pursued the shape of a spoon that will bring out the full flavor of curry rice, Japan's national dish. This is the beginning of the development of "Curry Kenjin," the ultimate curry spoon made just for eating Japanese curry rice.

Spoon makes curry taste better

Most of the conventional curry spoons were originally developed by manufacturers. However, this time we decided to change our approach and incorporate the needs of curry lovers into the spoon. In other words, the shape of the Curry Kenjin spoon was born from the love for curry rice.

Searching for love in curry rice

The key to developing this product was the feedback from curry lovers. First, we looked for curry specialty shop owners, and then we searched for "curry fanatics" who truly love curry, just like there are ramen fanatics. So, where should we conduct our research? We decided on the Jimbocho area of Kanda, Tokyo, a famous curry mecca. We dropped in on curry specialty shops to ask their opinions about the spoons, and with the help of the Kanda Curry Grand Prix, a bridge connecting curry fanatics in Kanda, we were able to hear the honest opinions of seasoned curry eaters. In this way, we were able to come up with the shape and size of the curry rice, incorporating the particularities of curry specialty shops and the feedback of curry fanatics.

A common feature of both types of "Curry Kenjin" is the shape of the handle. The gently curved handle fits comfortably in the hand, while at the same time providing a satisfying thickness for a strong grip. The curved shape also helps prevent the spoon from falling into the dish.

In recent years, curry specialty restaurants have diversified their hospitality methods, placing more emphasis on the volume and luxury of their curry. As a result, the size of curry plates has also tended to become larger, and as a result, many people have complained about the imbalance between the size of the spoon and the plate.

To meet this demand, we have utilized our many years of experience in developing authentic cutlery to create a longer spoon while maintaining an excellent weight balance. As a result, the spoon harmonizes with the table setting with the curry dish and stands up to being overpowered even when used with a larger dish.

"Saku" with asymmetrical plate parts
It is named after the act of " breaking up curry ingredients."

The spoon's edge rises from left to right, creating a design that slopes upwards. Its shape makes it easy to hold in the right hand. The tip of the spoon is equipped with a spatula, which helps prevent the sauce from splashing around, a common concern among curry enthusiasts, and helps separate the ingredients. The curved surface of the plate is also asymmetrical, a taboo in the cutlery industry. This is to make it easier to put the sauce in your mouth and pour it in. When we conducted market research during the prototype stage, the popularity far exceeded our expectations, leading us to decide to develop this spoon, which truly fulfills the wishes of diners.

An inverted silhouette of "Saku" <br data-mce-fragment="1">In response to enthusiastic feedback from many customers, "Hidari" has finally been born from the "Saku" series! The edge of the spoon rises from right to left, making it easy to hold with the left hand.
